SEO FOR BEGINNERS!

Unfortunately just submitting your website to the search engines will not get you top of the listings for the keywords you have submitted!;

Google, Bing, Ask Jeeves and other well known search engines are complicated and forever changing there tactics, keeping search engine specialists on there feet at all times!

Anyway enough of the boring talk, and lets focus on why you came to this blog post!

There are 2 main areas within search engine optimisation:

1 > On-site search engine optimisation!
2 > Off-site search engine optimisation!

Lets focus on the first one first! (On-site search engine optimisation).

On-Site Search Engine Optimisation

First thing we need to do is make sure your website is search engine friendly by checking areas we know will effect your page authority!

Make sure your website is W3C valid, you can check this by typing you website url in this website , If it's not do not worry but i do advise you try and validate your website so it is W3C valid!

Now we have a good starting block as our website should be W3C valid which gives you at least one + in the bank, we now focus on links, images and metatags.

Within the header always and i stress always insert the title, description and keywords metatags. If you do not know what they are.. here is an example;

<title>Your Title Goes Here</title>
<meta name="description" content="Description Goes Here" />
<meta name="keywords" content="Keywords Go Here" />

Now we have made sure all is done regarding titles, images, metatags and making the website is valid we must not waist what we have done by destroying it will bad content or content which has nothing to do with your keywords.

If your website has the keyword of "web design" you will need to include this keyword at least 3 times within the first paragraph, but remember to include it in a way which is not spamming your content with rubbish. Now you will also need to make this web page all about the keyword you have chosen!

Ok we have made your website search engine optimised... Here are a few thing you must not do!

  1. DO NOT USE FRAMES WITHIN HTML
  2. DO NOT MAKE YOUR PAGE 100% FLASH
  3. ALL INTERNET AND EXTERNAL dofollow links MUST NOT BE JAVASCRIPT
  4. NAVIGATION TO NOT BE ALL JAVASCRIPT DRIVEN
  5. TRY AND NOT USE DYNAMIC URLS

Now we have covered the basics to On-site search engine optimisation we will move on to the Off-site of the search engine optimisation!

Off-Site Search Engine Optimisation

We have 4 main areas that are needed to making a success to search engine optimisation.

1. Submitting your website to all major search engines, Providing them with an xml sitemap which you can do for nothing at this website.

2. Link building... Now most people think "lets pay them companies that offer 10000 links for £10", but this is worthless as all search engines will see is links pointing back to your website with no relevance to the website.

The secret is not quantity but quality!

Try and find links that are high Page Ranks and relevant to your content on the page you want linking to! If you can get 10 Pr6 backlinks that are relevant to the content you are displaying you will be better off than getting 10000 backlinks from websites with PR0 and not relevant to your websites content.

3. Articles, Blogs and Social Networking. Go out and drive traffic to your website by submitting articles to blogs like blogger.com and bloggin about your content, join facebook, twitter and push people to your site. Visitors help drive the pagerank up!

4. Submit your website to directories like Dmoz, Yahoo and Freeindex - websites like these bring page/domain authority to your website!

Now we are at an end! I hope i didn't bore you to much with my talking and i promise if you follow what i have said you will move up the search engines and hopefully generate more business for you!

This is complicated. A high PR link with no relevance is always better than PR 0 But all do follow links all count, its about quality more than quantity though. So the more relevant links the better but if you can't get this, then any link is good.
